I stuck it out until the end to find out what happened to the missing guy - the plot wasn't terrible.

The narrator was a little over enthusiastic and sounded like an outraged Daily Mail reader in parts. The scene where Grace is in a pub and it describes every single detail of the drinks is excruciating. The author seems to be trying to up his word count by describing every single thing that happens. I could hear Alan Partridge all the way through. The word 'horny' crops up more than once which is frankly unforgivable. Here's a typical description of one of his co-workers: 'Either she has rocks in her bra or seriously large breasts'. He'd be the worst colleague in the world but I think he's meant to be the hero. Every woman he meets is judged on her looks and he is perpetually aggravated by minutiae. It was a really good read, the chapters are short and the book is very fast paced.Roy Grace is a really unpleasant character. I love the little horror element towards near end of the book when we find out what has happened to one of the characters. The ending in the book did shock me a little but once I processed everything from reading it – it made more sense. He creates a good atmosphere in describing to characters and help the reader figure out which characters you shouldn’t care for (no spoilers). I love the style of writing Peter James does. This is a great book if you like crime/mystery books. He needs to figure out if Michael, Ashley’s fiancé is still alive or not and what happened to his missing friends on the stag night. He works in the police force and is haunted by his dead wife. There are 14 books in total (which I will slowly work my way through).ĭead simple is about Detective Superintendent Roy Grace. This one is part of the Roy Grace series and this is book one. I have read few books of his before, so I have some idea of how his writing style is (which I really like). There are few books in particular I enjoyed reading so I will share with you my thoughts on them both separately. I have been on holiday but I did read some books whilst I was away.
